Nigerian chicken suya has always been my favourite chicken recipe since I was back home Nigeria.
When l got to the diaspora, l found it difficult to cope with other chicken recipes. My Nigerian Chicken became a thing of the past.
But l still crave badly for it and couldn’forget about my best chicken Suya recipe.
After about two good years in diaspora and couldn’t cope any longer. The nostalgia feeling was just too much, l miss home and my Nigerian delicacies badly.
Ok! I thought in my mind, this feeling has to stop. I have to do something about it.
The first thing l did was to bring my Nigerian food experience into my diaspora Kitchen. I started by making homemade suya spice since that’s the magic behind the Nigerian Chicken Suya.
After developing the homemade suya spice recipe that is perfect. l started trying out different Chicken suya recipes in other to get my desired taste.
Lo and behold l finally developed this recipe that I’ll be sharing with you guys.
It has a moist texture, juicy, crispy and tastes so delicious and enjoyable.
This is the best Nigerian Chicken Suya recipe so far. It tastes so yummy and delicious and you’ll be amazed at how quickly it melts in the mouth.
My husband has requested for this chicken more than two times this week, he couldn’t stop talking about how enjoyable and delightful it tastes. This alone has been giving me joy. Feeling like a superstar, lol.
If you can’t make homemade suya spice, you can use the store-bought and still achieve the same result.
What you just have to do is to follow this recipe to the letter, to get the desirable result.
You can use any chicken part for this recipe: Chicken thigh, chicken wings, drumsticks, and so on. I normally switch between different chicken parts using the same recipe. But today, I’ll be using the chicken drumsticks.
So let me show you how to prepare the best and most delicious Nigerian Chicken Suya recipe from start to finish.

HOW TO PREPARE NIGERIAN CHICKEN SUYA
Wash the chicken clean, pat to dry and set aside.
In a mixing bowl, add the olive oil, chicken seasoning, salt, Cameroonian pepper, curry and thyme and mix everything together.
Grab your blender or food processor. Blend together the onions, garlic and ginger, then pour the mixture on the chicken.
Mix all the ingredients together. Then cover and leave in the refrigerator to marinade between 1-4 hours.
Take it out from the refrigerator. Pour some suya spice in a plate, then take the chicken one after the other and start rubbing in the suya spice.
Place them on the oven grilling rack and ready to be grilled.
HOW TO GRILL THE CHICKEN SUYA
Pre-heat the oven to 180 degree C
Place the chicken in the oven and allow to grill for about 20 minutes, then turn around for another 20 minutes.
When you notice that both sides are well cooked and golden brown. Then your Nigerian chicken suya is ready. Yummy!

Nigerian Chicken Suya Recipe: Easiest Recipe
Ingredients
- 750 g/ 8 pcs Chicken drum stick
- 2 tablespoon olive oil/ vegetable oil
- 2 Chicken seasoning cubes
- 1 tsp curry
- 1 tsp thyme
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 2 cloves garlic
- 1 big Onions
- 1 small ginger root
- 4 Seasoning cubes
- 3 tablespoon suya spice
Instructions
- In a mixing bowl, add the olive oil, chicken seasoning, salt, Cameroonian pepper, curry and thyme and mix everything together.
- Blend together the onions, garlic, and ginger, then pour the mixture on the chicken. Mix all the ingredients together. Then cover and leave in the refrigerator to marinade between 1-4 hours.
- Take it out from the refrigerator. Pour some suya spice in a plate, then take the chicken and start rubbing in the suya spice one after the other. Place them on the oven grilling rack.
- Place the chicken in the oven and allow to grill for about 20 minutes, then turn around for another 20 minutes.
